University of Houston quarterback  is officially on the radar of the folks in charge of the Heisman Trophy, given annually to college football’s best player.

Tim Henning, the Heisman Coordinator, confirmed for FOX 26 Sports Monday UH officials received a request for biographical information on Keenum from the Heisman Trophy Trust, governing body of the Heisman Trophy.

However Henning would not comment beyond that.

“We do not comment on potential Heisman Trophy aspirants,” Henning said.

“It looks to be a very exciting year in college football and with that there are a lot of very talented players throughout the country.”

Henning noted this is the 75th anniversary of the Heisman Trophy, and the finalists will be announced Dec. 7. The winner will be announced five days later on Dec. 12.

Until Sept. 11, 2001 the Heisman Trophy was awarded by the Downtown Athletic Club of New York City. The Club closed after that tragic day and the Heisman Trophy Trust, a non-profit entity, was formed to govern college football’s most coveted award.

Funds raised by the trust, minus operating expenses, are given to a variety of charities.

2009 is also the 20th anniversary of the University of Houston’s only Heisman Trophy winner to date, former Cougar quarterback Andre Ware.
